Brynmor Early Education & Preschool exemplifies the transformative power of adaptive reuse of a historic property through the conversion of a portion of the Lorton Workhouse into a vibrant educational environment. The design skillfully repurposes the existing structure, creating a welcoming and humanizing space that beautifully contrasts with its former use as a prison. With innovative ceiling treatments and an inviting atmosphere, this project masterfully embodies a “death to life transformation” that the jury found profoundly impactful. A couple years ago, early education and childcare expert Rhian Allvin made a drastic change.
